How to repair a gutter using HSS Sealant Tape

Repairing a leaking or damaged gutter with HSS Sealant Tape is quick, effective, and long-lasting. The tape’s MicroSealant® technology forms an instant waterproof bond, even in demanding outdoor conditions. Follow these steps for a clean and reliable repair:

1. Clean the Area
Begin by thoroughly cleaning the damaged section of the gutter. Remove dirt, dust, debris, old sealant, and any loose material. For best results, wash the area with a mild detergent and rinse well. Allow the surface to dry completely — HSS Sealant Tape adheres best to clean, dry surfaces.

2. Remove Rust or Flaking Paint
If the gutter has rust or peeling paint, lightly sand or brush the area to create a smooth surface. Wipe away any residue before continuing.

3. Measure and Cut the Tape
Unroll the HSS Sealant Tape and measure a piece that fully covers the damaged area, leaving at least 2–3 cm (1 inch) of overlap on all sides. Cut the tape to size using scissors or a utility knife.

4. Peel Off the Backing
Slowly remove the protective backing from the tape. Avoid touching the adhesive side with your fingers to maintain maximum bonding strength.

5. Apply the Tape Firmly
Position the tape over the damaged section of the gutter and press it firmly into place. Start in the center and work outward to push out air bubbles. Make sure the tape fully conforms to the gutter’s shape.

6. Roll for Maximum Adhesion
Use a roller or a firm hand to apply pressure across the entire tape surface. Strong pressure activates the MicroSealant® and ensures a permanent, watertight seal.

7. Inspect and Test
Once applied, check that all edges are firmly pressed down. HSS Sealant Tape creates an immediate seal, but for best results, allow it to settle for several hours before exposing the gutter to heavy rain.
